Be Friend a Gorilla
The Friend a Gorilla Campaign will be launched during the Gorilla Gala, and each of the Hollywood celebrities will participate in the launch by friending a gorilla on the internet during the event.
How will Friend a Gorilla work?
People who have a Facebook account will for the first time be able to befriend gorillas in addition to humans. Anyone will be able to befriend as many gorillas as they wish and pay one dollar for each of the gorilla they befriend.
At the same time, each gorilla will be befriended by as many people as fall like it.
A new website, www.friendagorilla.org has been set up, and it will be a micro-site on Facebook so that anyone with a Facebook account is able to log into the site where they will find faces and behavioural descriptions of each of the gorillas in the six habituated families in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
The descriptions and facial appearance of the gorillas will help the public to decide which gorilla they like to be friends with.
A Global Positioning System (GPS) will be used to show the gorilla movements on a map of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park so that whoever befriends a gorilla is able to tell its movements on the map.
