On a beautiful clear day, one can see Mount Muhavura the highest peak of the Mufumbiro Mountains (a.k.a mountains that cook) the mountain that erupted and led to the creation of Lake Bunyonyi. Lake Bunyonyi has a number of islands including the infamous punishment island where pregnant unmarried girls were abandoned and the former leper island. Leprosy was eliminated in the 1930s. Arcadia cottages is a family owned business. The family has ancestral ties to Lake Bunyonyi and one of the owners visited his relatives in this area as a child in the 1950s. The good memories of the breathtaking scenery inspired him to later on acquire land in this area and develop it. Arcadia cottages Lake Bunyonyi has contributed to development of the area. Tapped water was only introduced to the area at the time that the owners of the cottages started their project. Due to this the local people in the neighborhood now have access to clean tap water closer to their residences.

capital city of Uganda. It is located in the district of Kabale in South Western
Uganda and is less than an hour away from the border to Rwanda and an hour’s drive
from the capital city Kigali. Arcadia Cottages Lake Bunyonyi is an ideal stop over
on the way to Bwindi National Park the home of the mountain gorillas. Bwindi National
Park is an hour and a half’s drive from Arcadia cottages Lake Bunyonyi.
