Handset devices embedded with extra service are now providing service providers a new edge in competition.
MTN, UTL, Airtel and Orange have all aggressively entered the battle of the devices market offering a diversity of phones from smart phones to simple handsets that have boosted both voice and data penetration.
MTN and Orange have provided the android handsets. These fairly affordable handsets have also boosted the penetration of mobile internet.
Orange recently unveiled a high definition (HD) enhanced handsets that offers enhanced call quality for users. Orange Uganda is the 13th and the first country in sub-Saharan African region to launch the HD handset.

Apart from telecom operators who are vending their own devices, providers like Samsung have also aggressively entered the device market and are revolutionizing the availability of handsets which are key drivers for communication.
