The Lexus RX is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV sold since 1998 by Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota. Originally released in its home market of Japan in late 1997 as the Toyota Harrier, export sales began in March 1998 as the Lexus RX. Four generations of the Lexus RX have been produced to date, the first being compact in size, and the latter three classified as mid-size. Both front- and four-wheel drive configurations have been used on the RX series, and several gasoline power train options, including V6 engines and hybrid systems, have been offered. In the Lexus model lineup, the RX sits below the larger GX and LX body-on-frame SUVs, and above the smaller NX crossover. The RX name stands for Radiant Crossover. It has also been labelled as "Recreation Cross Country" in some markets.

There are a number of ways you can buy a Lexus RX in Uganda today and one of the simple ways is through a car bond. Here, everything has been done by your car bond dealer. All you have to do is simply pay for the car from the car bond and drive home. However, you can also find that some Lexus RX have only been cleared the CIF fees only.

This would mean that if you want a Lexus RX then you will have to clear the rest of the taxes. Alternatively, you can buy a Lexus RX from a local car bond in Uganda with all the due tax charges and fees paid. All you have to do is to pay the whole price of the car and then the car is transferred to you as the new owner. First it would require you to find a trusted dealer or seller in that regard, determine your specific car features and requirements, expected budget you plan to spend on buying the car and well calculated taxes to be paid to the tax authorities in order to clear Lexus RX.

The taxes charged by the Uganda Revenue Authority include Import Duty, Value added (VAT), Withholding Tax, Environmental Levy, Infrastructure Levy, and Registration Fees basing on the CIF of the Lexus RX from Japan. For example a Lexus RX 2008 can be got at a price of $4,000 and will have a fee of Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF) totaling to USD 6,000 to Kampala, Uganda with no Local taxes paid yet.

On arrival to Kampala, Uganda, you will have to clear the taxes at The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), apply and pay for a number plate and then the third party license. You will also notice the some of these charges or fees differ from other vehicles.

General Lexus RX reviews for Uganda

With the same bold grille design as the new IS, NX and RC coupe, large L-shaped LED headlights, arrowhead fog lights and a creased bonnet, the RX looks imposing at the front. In profile the 'origami' styling, with plenty of slashes and chunky shapes, sets the RX apart from some of its rivals. At the back there are blacked-out C-pillars for a floating roof effect and LED taillights that wrap around a long way into the side of the car.

Depending on the model you choose, you'll find a 12.3-inch screen (it's eight-inches on lower-spec models) that displays the car's infotainment system menus, music and sat-nav route. The system itself takes some getting used to, and the sat-nav instructions could be clearer, but the large screen looks slick.

Getting to comfort and boot space, the latest Lexus RX is the largest yet, which is good news for the car's practicality - but makes it a little more difficult to drive in the city. Both gearboxes available are automatic, which will help in heavy commuter traffic, but there's no getting away from the fact that this is a large SUV.

There are five seats in the RX, and the rear seats fold down in a 60:40 split using levers to the side of each seat.

The rear seats in the Lexus RX have been worked over by the brand to mimic those of a limousine - there's more legroom than before, and the seat backs recline more too. Since there's no bulky transmission tunnel in the floor, the middle seat is usable for more than just short trips.

For taller passengers the high floor could cause some discomfort in the back, but the seats themselves are comfortable are reclined using a button on the side of the cushion.

Lexus RX complaints basing on model year comparison in Uganda
