Answer:UGANDA WORK PERMIT REQUIREMENTS
All foreign nationals intending to work in Uganda must ensure that they are in possession of the relevant work permit.
The requirements for the different categories/classes of work permits are here below listed.
1. CLASS A (GOVERNMENT & DIPLOMATIC SERVICE)
NB: Applicants should be persons contracted for service in the Government of Uganda or diplomats accredited for service in Uganda
Application requirements:
• Fill Entry /work Permit form
• Attach photocopies of the passport
• 2 passport size photos
• Covering letter from the Embassy and a supportive letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs- Note verbale
2. CLASS A2 (GOVERNMENT CONTRACTORS)
NB: Applicants should be persons on Government contracts, including persons serving in Government tertiary institutions
Application Requirements:
• Fill Entry/work permit form
• Attach photocopies of the passport
• 2 passport size photos
• Covering letter from the organization
• Covering letter from the line ministry
• Interpol letter from home country
• Academic qualifications for professionals
3. CLASS B (INVESTMENT IN AGRICULTURE)
NB: Applicants should be persons intending to invest in the business of agriculture or animal husbandry.
Application Requirements:
• Fill Entry/work permit form
• 2 passport size photos
• Photocopies of passport
• Attach Covering letter from company
• Land title
• Uganda Investment Authority license
• Letter from Ministry of Agriculture regarding intended agricultural venture
• Recommendation from LCs or RDCs office
• Work plan/ Feasibility study of the project undertaken

4. CIASS C (MINING)
NB: Applicants should be persons intending to invest in the business of prospecting for minerals or mining in Uganda
Application Requirements:

• License issued by Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development
• Articles and memorandum of Association
• Supportive letter from ministry of natural resources

5. CLASS D (BUSSINESS AND TRADE)
NB: Applicants should be persons intending to carry on the business or trade in Uganda
Application Requirements:

6. CLASS E (MANUFACTURERS)
NB: Applicants should be persons intending to engage in manufacturing business in Uganda

• Company documents: Articles, memorandum and certificate of incorporation
• Investment license

NB: Applicants should be members of prescribed professions intending to practice such profession in Uganda

CHANGE OF EMPLOYMENT
Foreign nationals seeking to Change of employment within Uganda should obtain a certificate of no objection from current employer in addition to written approval from the Director for Immigration
CERTIFICATE OF RESIDENCE
• Fill CR form
• 3 passport size photos
• LC1 recommendation letter
• Covering letter from applicant
• Proof of contribution to socio-economic/intellectual development of Uganda
• Medical report
• Copy of passport
• Proof of ownership of property (if any)
CR DUE TO MARRIAGE
• Requirements as above plus:
• Marriage certificate copy (marriage should have been subsisting for at least 3yrs)
• Copy of the spouse’s Uganda passport
Class H (PENSIONERS)
Pensioners seeking to reside in Uganda shall provide the following requirements;
• Applicant should be above the age of sixty
• Applicant should fill pensioner’s application form
• Attach 2 passport size photos
• Provide proof of pension
• Attach Bank statement on which applicant draws his pension (last 3 months) and proof of sufficiency of sustenance
• Attach Letter of good conduct from home Affairs Ministry of home country
• Attach Covering letter from applicant explaining status of pensioner and reason for choice of Uganda as country of residence
• Proof of retirement i.e. certificate or equivalent documents
• Physical address of where applicant will reside in Uganda.
• Covering letter from the area Local council 1
• Acknowledgement from Embassy/High commission/Consulate
SPECIAL PASSES
Save for applicants under work permit class G category, applicants under other classes may obtain special passes pending the processing of their work permit applications. Persons hired for employment on short contract not exceeding three months may also apply for special passes provided entry is made upon approval and payment for the facility
REQUIREMENTS FOR SPECIAL PASS

ENDORSEMENT OF IMMIGRATION FACILITIES
Upon approval and payment, the relevant immigration facility sought will be endorsed on the passport of the applicant.
DEPENDANT PASSES
Foreign nationals working in Uganda and seeking to reside with their spouses and dependants in the country should apply for Dependant passes. Dependant passes do not permit the holders to work in Uganda. A dependant seeking to engage in employment in the country must oblige with requirements for work in Uganda.
Requirements include:
1. Complete Dependant pass form
2. Attach covering letter explain the relationship with work permit/CR holder
3. In the case of spouses, attach proof of marriage /in the case of children attach birth certificates
4. 2 passport size photo for each dependant
5. Pay dependant pass fees
6. Provide original passport for endorsement of immigration facility
EMPLOYMENT OF EAC NATIONALS UNDER THE EAC COMMON MARKET PROTOCOL
Beneficiaries under EAC Common Market
Categories of workers allowed to work in Uganda by 2010 under the EAC Common Market Protocol include Chairmen of companies; Civil engineers; Aircraft and ship controllers and technicians
Requirements for Employment:
1. Applicant should fill work permit form and fulfill requirements under the specific category of work permit sought. (Refer to categories above)
2. EAC nationals who obtain work of more that 90 days should apply for work permit within 15 days from date of entry into Uganda or in the event that applicant is already in Uganda he/she should apply within 15 days from date of concluding contract of employment.
3. Special pass should be sought for Employment of not more than 90 days
4. Special passes will be issued to EAC nationals pending issuance of work permits
5. Employers should furnish immigration with Annual Return of EAC workers in establishment
6. EAC Workers who change employment should notify immigration within 15 days from date of change of employment and should apply for new work permit under auspices of new employer
7. If worker ceases employment for which work permit was issued he/she must notify immigration within 15 days of cessation and apply for pass to stay in Uganda or leave the country.
8. Dependant passes for spouses and dependants will be issued upon application and payment for the facility
9. A dependant seeking to work in Uganda must comply with requirements for work in Uganda
