Standard chartered Bank and Sight Savers International Team up to restore sight to the Blind

Standard chartered Bank and sight savers international have launched a five year campaign to restore sights of 1000 blind people in Uganda.

The sight restoration campaign was launched by the Director General of Health services Dr. Jane Aceng at Lira Hospital.

The sight restoration campaign 2012 will cost standard chartered bank 100 million shillings.

Speaking at the launch of the campaign the Chief Executive Officer, standard chartered bank Lamin Manjang said that the bank is investing in sight restoration to reduce on the number of blindness.

The Executive Director Uganda National Association for the blind, Richard Anguyo asked government to train more eye doctors to increase the current number of 37 eye doctors He also called for provision of drugs for eye treatment in all hospitals.

Reports indicate there are 37 million blind people in the world and every five seconds one person goes blind while every minute a Chilean goes blind yet 75% of blindness is preventable.
