The Government of Uganda is drafting a comprehensive immigration policy that will address loopholes in the existing one.
Speaking at a workshop to discuss the draft policy in Kampala on Friday, Internal affairs state minister James Baba said the policy would lock out unwanted elements like terrorists and unwelcome behaviors.
Many illegal immigrants have exploited the existence of policy gaps in the past to enter the country, the minister noted.
Baba however, added that Uganda will not close its borders to foreigners in the implementation of the policy.
Immigration department spokesperson Eunice Kisembo said the policy will be forwarded to Cabinet for debate and approval by September this year.
