LOCAL artists must stop looking at foreign tourists as the main source of market for their products, a top official advised last week.
Caleb Owino, the Fireworks Advertising managing director, counselled that if artists want to sell more art pieces, they had to tap into the huge local market.
“For long, artists have been targeting mainly the tourist and expatriates, yet there is a huge market in public offices. Most of these walls are empty and could be filled with art pieces. In the process, we shall be allowing artists to make some money locally,” Owino said.
He was speaking during the Third Annual Fireworks Art Exhibition in Kampala recently. The fair, born from a need to get the local market to appreciate and purchase local art pieces, attracted over 100 top CEOs in town.
Over 15 artists showcased at the exhibition.
