The Construction of an ultra-modern Audit House, the headquarters for the office of the Uganda Auditor General, has started.
The building, to be located on Plot 2C Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road in Kampala, will have ten storeys above ground and three levels of underground parking space for up to 150 cars.
The sh44b project is expected to be completed within 18 months and handed over to the Auditor General’s office by February 2013.
It is jointly funded by the Government and UK’s Department for International Development (DFID).
Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, the Auditor General, James Muwanga said the new building would enhance the body’s audit independence and improve its corporate image.
He disclosed that several auditors have been sharing space with some of the institutions that they watch over, raising concerns that they could get compromised in their duties.
