Coffee exports from Uganda, one of Africa's leading exporters of the beans, is expected to rise by 20.2 percent in July from the same month a year ago, the state-run Uganda Coffee Development Authority said on Monday.
The regulator said the nation, east Africa's third largest economy, is forecast to ship 320,000 60-KG bags of coffee this month from 266,245 bags in July last year.
"Coffee exports in July 2011 are projected at 320,000 bags as harvesting intensifies; and farmers selling off their coffee reserves to benefit from the good prices," UCDA said in the report.
Bean exports in June rose to 370,924 60-kg bags, up from the month's forecast of 265,000 bags and earnings more than doubled to $53 million from $23.03 million in June 2010.
